I keep getting the SMS – stop it!

- 5 MIN READ - 30 Oct 2012

From time to time there are problems with SMS delivery that are out of our hands and receiving one SMS multiple times is one of the most annoying one.

So why does this happen? Over-simplified SMS sending flow looks something like this:

  1. Send SMS from Messente
  2. Messente forwards the SMS to operator
  3. Operator sends SMS to cell phone
  4. Cell phone responds to Operator, that it got the message
  5. Operator tells Messente, that the message was delivered

The issue lies in step 4, where cell phone does not correctly respond to Operator, that it got the SMS. Due to this, Operator thinks that the SMS was not delivered and tries to send it again and again.

Mostly this happens when the destination number / cell phone is in roaming – out of Operators home network.

Unfortunately Messente has no idea that the Operator is flooding the cell phone with this one message and due to technical limitations there is also no way to tell Operator to stop it.

As a safeguard Messente limits the period of delivery to 6 hours – this means, that when the message does not get delivered in 6 hours, operator has no right to send this message again.

Join us to learn how we're helping people #TurnOn2FA

01 Aug 2017

We’ve developed solid APIs for global SMS messaging and two-factor authentication, which are currently part of processes for hundreds of companies and facilitate thousands of transactions every day. Yet we aren’t stopping there. Effectively communicating with customers and securing customer account access online are two aspects of business technology we focus on. While there’s much more to business technology (much, much more,) these are the two areas which we strive to be the best.

That’s why we keep developing our tools to address evolving needs in the areas which we specialize.
