About the role

Messente handles business messaging for companies that can't afford a message to go missing — PIN codes, one-time passwords, and time-critical notifications, delivered securely and at scale. We're one of Estonia's leading communications technology companies, with customers around the world.

We’re looking for an organised and proactive Junior Counsel (practical placement) to support the legal function, assist the Data Protection Officer in day-to-day privacy matters, and conduct contract review. The work will be heavily based in transactional law and privacy law.

This posting is targeted at applicants who are currently pursuing law degrees and are searching for practical placement opportunities as a requirement to complete their curriculum. Preferred candidates will have completed their second year of bachelor’s degree and possess a general grasp of transactional law, contract law, and privacy (EU GDPR). The intern will be reporting to and will be mentored by the Head of Legal and DPO.

This is a short-term practical placement position with the primary goal of mentoring the applicant in the practice of law and is therefore without compensation. Candidates with prior experience, in the later stages of their studies, and/or those displaying a high degree of independence will be considered for compensation.

Location: Estonia, Tallinn
Type: Part-time (0.25 to 0.5 workload, depending on studies schedule). This is a fixed-term contract from October 2026 to December 2026.


What you'll do

As our Junior Counsel, you’ll be able to engage in legal risk management and negotiation processes, ranging from initial redlining and regulatory analysis to participating in commercial negotiations. You’ll:

  • Work directly with the Head of Legal and will be guided in the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained during your concurrent studies

  • Review various vendor, partner, and customer agreements

  • Analyze personal data flows within the EU and outside of the EU and assess privacy risks

  • Analyze various laws and regulations applicable to technology and communications companies

  • Engage in commercial negotiations with customers and partners


You’ll be thriving in this role if you:

  • Possess a general grasp of transactional and contract law, along with privacy law as a bonus.

  • Are highly organised and enjoy making sure things run smoothly.

  • Take initiative and spot what needs to be done without waiting for instructions.

  • Have a high level of attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Are fluent in written and spoken English. Other languages are a plus.

  • Are comfortable using MS Office or Google Workspace.

  • Enjoy supporting others and creating a positive team environment.

  • Can work from our Tallinn office. This is a hybrid role meaning that work can be performed wherever is most comfortable for you, however it is recommended to work from the office at least once per week to more efficiently communicate with the Head of Legal

No prior experience required – what matters most is your motivation to learn, willingness to help, and proactive attitude.
